As of today, I still have not received an email from anyone about going to the school I signed up for. I emailed my instructor this past week about it, and she said we should be hearing from the program this week. I really hope we do because I am ready to start this project!

Last week I received an email from Julie Johnson that said that our service project should be beginning this week. As of today, I still have not received an email giving me the "okay" to go to a school. I am excited about starting and being able to help a a child. It is important for a child to have someone they can go to for help in school or for help in general, someone they can go to to talk to. Some children can go to their parents for that, but others, like me, could not go or cannot go to them. I would love to be that person to someone. I have always been a firm believer in education, but I have always known from personal experience that coming from a dysfunctional family or having big problems in your life, that you cannot control, really affects a child's life. This is why I not only want to help a student but also be there as a mentor, as someone who they can talk to for anything. I am motivated and ready to get started, and God willing, I will soon!

Blog #2

As of right now, I was given Hamilton MS from HISD as the school to do my CIS assignment. I was looking into choosing a different school, but because my transportation is limited, due to the fact that I do not have a car, Hamilton MS would be the closest and fastest to get to on the Metro. This upcoming week, I plan to go to the school and get everything settled with the school so that I can get my schedule set and be ready to start my assignment. I have always wanted to give back to my community in ways that reflect my background, and I believe that this is a very good way to do that. I am looking forward to this assignment, and God willing, I will be able to help out someone in need of my help.
